Did anybody else happen to watch the "Inside 9/11 " special on National Geographic last night ? I was debating on whether or not I wanted to sit and have to be reminded of that terrible day and all of the innocent people who died , but as it turns out I found that it is far better that I not be made to forget it .
America , and probably the whole world , was changed that day . I don't think anybody , even the government agencies that were formed to specifically monitor terrorist activity around the world , could have ever expected that there was somebody out there with so much hatred in their hearts that they would put such effort into killing their fellow human beings . They showed an excerpt from an interview with Osama Bin Laden from back in the early 90's . He basically said that America is his enemy and he wouldn't distinguish between those wearing uniforms and those who were civillians . That gave me chills . I know that there are hundreds of thousands of people like myself out there who are simply trying to live their life and to generally do right by those living around them . Hell , I don't even know why the people in Afghanistan hate Americans so much considering the fact that we HELPED them to drive the Russian army out of their country back in the 80's . I STILL don't know what would make them want to kill innocent women and children as well as soldiers . If you ask me , that is NOT a holy war or righteous cause . That is purely psychotic and homicidal behavior . But then war of any kind generally falls into that same category .
Overall , I thought that the National Geographic special was eye opening at the very least . If you get a chance to watch it , you should . We shouldn't just try to put 9/11 in the past and move on . We need to remember that day and remember why we have troops in Afghanistan . If you know anybody over there , tell them that we appreciate their sacrifice and their courage .
