On saturday afternoon my friend called and asked if I wanted to go on a motorcycle ride up to Whistler. Being the sucker for a nice bike that I am, I immediately accepted. It was a gorgeous day; perfect for a ride on the bike. Unfortunately I have a bad back. I used to drive for greyhound back in 2005/2006. While there I ended up slipping a disc and spraining my lower and upper back. I did a trip to Revelstoke and back in an old seven speed with a super stiff clutch. With the fact that I also had to load and unload luggage and cargo, it was inevitable that I ended up ruining my back. Four years later, I'm still dealing with it. And yes, I do yoga, and physio and get massages. Anyhow, back to the main story....

We get to Squamish and I get off the bike in the most pain I've been in in years. We decide to stop for lunch and then turn around and head back to Vancouver. On the way back, we had to stop every ten minutes because I was in so much pain. After about the fifth stop I finally told Mark that he should go on without me and I would take a taxi or a bus back into the city. He told me that he didn't care if he had to stop every two minutes as long as I made it back safely home. After quite a few more stops we finally made it back to my place. Being the gentleman that he is, he went out and bought me some smokes and a bottle of wine (to help with the pain, of course).

He ended up having to help me up the stairs into my apartment. Once there we had a glass of wine and then I sent him on his way. Sometimes it helps to lie flat on my back on the floor, so I tried that. Six hours later, I still couldn't get up. Luckily I had my cell phone by my side and I called the two people who had keys to my apartment. One was in Vernon and the other in Washington...just my luck eh? At around four am I managed to get off the floor and into bed. This morning I wasn't able to get out of bed until about 6pm. I'm doing a lot better now, but am still in excruciating pain.

Point of the story. I cannot ride a motorcycle. I was planning on getting my class 6 next year and buying a bike. I guess it's good to have learned this fact before I spent money on everything. Although I could get a bike with a back support but those just look silly. I suppose I'll just have to focus on getting my class 1 instead.
