I'm so happy to see that my piece has gone up. My set is an art piece, performance piece, done in a gallery setting and then intervening into a setting where nudity is sexualized. It's a comment on audience and context as well as the many roots of feminine power, empowerment, and influence. The actual publication of this performance art documented homage is part of the performance piece. Originally there were 300 photos taken of this documentation. 60 were sent in and it looks like about half of them were published. In my original comments about the photo set I included what was written on the scroll, but it was edited out as it was too long. There were also photos of the words on the paper and explicit photos of the removal of the scroll from my vagina, but they were not published. They have been upload to the outtakes albulm. Performance.

Performed in East Hampton,NY and at the Telluride Film Festival, Colorado. Schneemann ritualistically stood naked on a table, painted her body with mud until she slowly exracted a paper scroll from her vagina while reading from it.

"I thought of the vagina in many ways-- physically, conceptually: as a sculptural form, an architectural referent, the sources of sacred knowledge, ecstasy, birth passage, transformation. I saw the vagina as a translucent chamber of which the serpent was an outward model: enlivened by it's passage from the visible to the invisible, a spiraled coil ringed with the shape of desire and generative mysteries, attributes of both female and male sexual power. This source of interior knowledge would be symbolized as the primary index unifying spirit and flesh in Goddess worship." -CS
I feel like it is an amazing and beautiful thing that SG is a space that supports art and that this intervention between the worlds of art vs porn are able to be made here. Thanks to Missy.
