What an interesting day. Same ole thing at work. Dad still isn't talking to me because I didn't make it to help him pick out a computer even though I told him I'd be there. Decided I'd come home, sit on the computer awhile and just look around. Then I hear sirens and they keep stopping close by. I finally realize that they're next door, an ambulance and a fire truck. Even though I've always hated those people that stood and watched, I kept looking out of the window. I've never really gotten to know this neighbor, though he was always really nice. He was an older gentleman and he always treated my dogs nicely. One time I caught him feeding them hotdogs through the fence, it was funny though I think he got a little embarrassed. As I kept watching it seemed unusual that the fire truck pulled off. This was the point that I noticed one of his friends (someone I'd seen over there before) was standing in the yard looking, hmm...distraught. A police car pulled up and it occured to me that he has probably died in his sleep or something that effect. Reality comes sweeping in at times like these, and by reality I mean a greater perspective. I keep watching for what seems like forever. No people come out other than those that went in. Eventually the crowd breaks up a bit (meaning the people now working in his house) and I decide to finally take the dogs out. While I'm outside, a woman comes out of his house. I debate whether or not I should ask her if he's ok when she starts to dial a cell phone, her first words, "He shot hisself [sic]." She begins to cry and I feel like I step out of body for a moment as I can only imagine what went through his head. I had been meaning to see if he wanted to come over and have a beer sometime, he always seemed like he needed some company. Wish I wasn't right this time. frown
