Discussion of race and racism, as necessary as it is, is SO FRUSTRATING on this site because so many people have no idea how to examine the racism in their own lives. They have no idea what the difference is between active hateful racism and institutionalized racism.
They have no idea that the racism that they live with every single day has nothing to do with active hate on their parts. They have no idea that racism pervades every aspect of everyone's lives. White people in this country (and on this site) do not understand they amazing amount of privilege they have in every situation, nor do they have the insight or the courage to take a serious look at it. They all like to pretend that the past didn't happen, or that somehow since Obama's president, racism is suddenly somehow only anomalous, and that racism itself, as a concept only belongs to the Klan or something.
