i received a gift off my wish list yesterday...from someone i don't know. thank you! whoever you are!
it's "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. any of you kids read it?
so funny too, because just the day before i was thinking about "Apocalypse Now" which i had just seen for the first time in a long time. and i was thinking about how the movie focuses so strongly on the men in the forces, the men creating the war, the men getting killed. and all the women in the movie are hookers, or screaming vietnamese, or sexy french lovers who are focused on the main male character. which is all fine, and i wouldn't expect anything else for the times, and the vision of the film. but i found myself wondering what a woman's perspective would be on the vietnam war, especially the ones who witnessed it first hand. because they weren't causing the destruction, but they were witness to it, and they were often its victims. and then i thought of "A People's History..." and wondered if it would give me the insight i was seeking.
and then it arrived in the mail.

ok. this is really weird.
so i get home today and there's ANOTHER package from amazon at my door.
i open it, and it, also, is "The People's History...", except in hardback. the return address is from alabama. the first one was in indiana.
so apparently, not only do i have one secret admirer, but TWO, and you both think alike!!!!!!!!!!!!
