so all those good luck car-ma wishes y'all sent finally arrived through the post...a lot were a little worse for wear, and some had already been opened, but it seems they did indeed work.
drumroll please.....ba da ba da ba da badadadadaddddddd dum!
I HAVE BOUGHT A CAR. not a car. A TRUCK.
it is:
a toyota tacoma
1997
68 K miles (!)
cd player
mine mine mine.
well. almost mine. i'm waiting for my check to clear. it's been a hassle, so i probably won't get my hands on it til next week...but...it's a done deal.
it was not cheap. cheap by some standards, for sure. a real deal, esp. for a tacoma. but much more than i wanted to pay. *grabs shovel and begins widening financial pit to fit truck*.
the only thing i don't like about it....
...it has swooshes.
yes. swooshes. on the side. all the other trucks are going to pick on it and call it a sissy. oh well.
the best part about the whole thing, is i'm buying it from this little old chinese man and his family. he's got this little mischevious twinkle in his eye. when i called him first on the phone, i thought he was on qualudes, he sounded so dopey and drugged. when i met him i realized he's just old.
now, i went to look at this truck in lieu of another one i was certain i was going to buy...except the dude who was selling was a total flake, and ended up selling to someone else. that truck was a 1999, and had 100 k miles! when said dude flaked, i immediately got back on line to search AGAIN. and lo and behold, here was my little baby. the whole time i was feeling led by providence, just because of the way i kept hitting obstacles with the first potential, and then the way this one just landed in my lap, and was such the better deal.
so the REALLY sweet part, is.....when we went to look at it, one of the first things i noticed was a bright red sticker on the back, with chinese lettering.
"UUUHHHGLY" i thought, "that'll be the first thing to go."
but dov had the presence of mind to ask the little old man what it said, and he replied..."uuuhhh...it buddhist...and says like 'god bless you'. but not god. is buddhist."
the universe was cracking itself up right then. (i'm a practicing buddhist).
ok, so maybe you had to be there.
but i have a TRUCK!!! vroom vroom.
