bad news: my god damn car broke down, AGAIN.

good news: just sent off my new set to missy today and I LOVE IT. i hope you do too.

so here's another story:

on a sunday we hopped in the car and drove souh west towards toscana and siena, to the most infuckingcredible hotsprings i've ever been too. (i will post pics, i swear). 15 cascading pools of yummy sulfury water with rock worn so smooth it felt like glass. after soaking away most of the day, we drove around tuscany, visiting the little castle towns and sighing at beautiful sweeping view after view. that night, foot tired and hungry, we went to a small restaurant on recommendation from someone in the next town over. "camillos".

camillo was our host and he had total hall-n-oats hair, with a moustache, and all the pride about his food that you would expect. my friend had warned me that they eat a LOT of meat in toscana, especially wild boar. so we took special care to make sure the tortellini we ordered was vegetarian. our wine came first, as did the fruit flies swimming drunkenly around in it. my companion told the apologetic waitress that he just needed a clean glass and that obviously the wine was ok because the flies were still alive biggrin. i'd eaten so much amazing food already, that i really was nonplussed by the tuscan food that i basically eat in california all the time. the tortellini was ok...i had pumpkin topping, my friend had nuts. but there was also this weird heavy flavor. kinda smokey, kinda fatty, kinda....thick. 3/4 of the way i fish out a piece of red zucchini, put in on my friend's plate and said, "please tell me that's not bacon."

oh, it was. then my friend has the brainstorm to cut a tortellini in 1/2.

"well" i say. "that could be nuts....or that could be pork."

wild boar to be exact.

camillo was mortified...apparently there had been a mixup in the delivery that day...usually the tortellini was spinach and cheese. a very heated conversation in italian took place where my friend said that we just would pay less and have a dessert. however, feeling quite ill at that point and wondering if chunks would be coming up later, decided i didn't want to throw any chocolate on top of it all. this was much to camillo's dismay, who became angry and asked why we hadn't noticed the meat earlier. later my friend explained that:

"food for italians is like children. and he is mostly afraid that we will give him a bad reputation."

and i am. if you go to toscana, DO NOT eat at camillo's.
