I did my civic duty and punched out my mail-in ballot tonight. I don't know if there's quite enough time for it to get in by Tuesday night if I mail it tomorrow, so I'll just drop it off at a voting location on Election Day. So much for getting a mail-in ballot, huh? Due to my procrastination, I'm going to have to drive down to the polls anyway...oh well.

This is the first local election that I've voted in here in San Diego...it's been an interesting challenge to vote in such a relatively conservative area (I'm out in the suburbs, too, which are definitely solidly Republican). Previously I've always voted up in LA, where it's definitely more liberal all around. Here it's often more a matter of choosing between the *less* conservative candidates. I made sure not to vote for some of the bigots on the local school board (there was a big deal over the "insidious gay agenda" infiltrating the school district recently, instigated by a few members)...and really, I had a hard time drumming up passion for who was running for the local water district board and all, but overall it was interesting learning about all of the local people who are giving a shot at running for various offices...the housewives and pest-control business owners, local church leaders, to name a few...I'm sure most of the (marginally liberal) candidates I voted for won't win, but heck, whatever I can do to make this area a bit more progressive I will...

i'm going to go get a chai right now and think about your chai experience. oh, i don't know if i've said it before: but richard powers' _the goldbug variations_ is extremely awesome. note: i had 1/4 of a beer with lunch and don't know what day it is. gone are the days when i drank gin directly out of the bottle.

Those bastards never sent me my absentee ballot.

I rented a Hartley today: Henry Fool. And a related movie, The House of Yes (with Parker Posey)

Too bad I have too much work and can't watch them.
