I think just about everyone has had that dream where youre back in school taking a big exam but you havent studied. For me its always algebra. I was born without a left brain and that subject still inspires nightmares.
Anyway, I had a slight variation on that dream last night. In this one, I was participating in a reunion performance of our high school production of Jesus Christ Superstar. (You know this is a dream cause theres no way in hell any public high school would let you put that show on now.) Anyway, there we all were again, dressed in our sheets, me as Judas and I suddenly realize Ive been smoking like a chimney for the past eleven years!!! The voice is long gone!!!
So I awoke with a start, relieved that it was all just a dream and promptly reached for a cigarette.
Saw Finding Neverland on Saturday. Not bad, all in all. It frames the period of James Barries life in which he pens Peter Pan; his inspirations, his relationships, his obstacles, etc. It was a nice little costume drama, though the story felt a bit cookie cutter-ish. And I saw The Incredibles on Sunday. I think this was another case of over-hyping. Dont get me wrong, I did like it, but Well, a lot of my friends thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread (which I also think is over-hyped.). I was most impressed with the production design of the villains lair and the music, which really owed more to James Bond movies than superhero flicks.
So anyway, Im forced to maintain that the old Disney flicks are still the best. Ill take a Sleeping Beauty or Snow White over any of the stuff thats come out in the last twenty years. Maybe its just me, but man Maleficent and the Queen were real VILLAINS. They wanted to kill people, cut out their hearts, put em in eternal comas, etc Not sit around and crack funny one-liners.
Other than that, I sat on my ass, pleasantly baked, watching my brand spanking new Seinfeld DVDs. A good weekend indeed.
OK, back to work
