Friday again. Thank God. This was definitely one of those weeks that dragged on and on and on. Work has been crazy; just one thing after another. The walls are starting to close in and Im feeling a little burnt out. I found myself yelling at the phone the other day, pleading with it to at least find a new tone. I find myself craving a change of scenery. Four years at this desk has taken its toll. I feel like Im looking out through a computer that hasnt had the benefit of a screen saver. Everything around me burnt into my retinas. Even when Im at home, the phantom image of my view at work still lingers
Got an email from the Woman this week. A post-Halloween hello, as it were. Yeah That didnt improve my mood any.
And Im kinda bummed as I was hoping to get down to Disneyland to meet up with the SG Disney fans, but my buddys birthday is on Saturday night and I dare not miss it. Hes my oldest bestest friend and I love him dearly, but damn You dare not cross him with anything that might be construed as a sleight. Hell take it way too seriously/personally.
Granted I say that as a person who tends to be Whats the word? Is there even a word? I just dont get bent out of shape over people. Friends are friends. If youre in, youre in. You dont need to feel obligated to spend time. If youve got your own shit going on, by all means make yourself happy first. Ill always be here. Some have told me that this comes from being an only child. Maybe
But anyway, good friend that I am, I got him the Unicron Transformer though Im decorating the box with pictures of Orson Welles to make it an Orson action figure. For as we all know, his final picture was The Transformers the Movie Appropriate really; the man who gave us Citizen Kane goes out playing a planet that eats other planets.
We used to have a sketch comedy troupe called the Decepticons. One of our sketches was a parody of Welles trailer for Kane. Except in the sketch, Welles description of Kane doubles for Unicron. Some call him a hero, others a scoundrel Well hes both really, and hes the subject of my new film, The Transformers the Movie the
Yeah, we had an odd sensibility
On an up note, however, I love working with geeks. Ya know what I got today? One of the techies brought me up a DVD copy of the Monster Squad!!! You know, that 80s, post-Goonies monster fest? But I hear you say, Ryan, isnt that film tied up in litigation and long out of print in any format? You bet your sweet ass it is. But someone here got their hands on an old Japanese laserdisc version (widescreen no less) and gave it to the techies. And now happy days are here again. Ill be reliving some happy childhood moments tonight, that much is certain.
Cause hey, Wolfmans got nards!

Sounds a lot like mine.
A quick fix on the desk front - move the computer to the other side of your desk, if its on the right or left side. If its in the center, move it to one side. Then move everything else on the desk, replace some things, put up posters on the wall or window behind your desk (or on the chair of the person in front of you) depicting places you've never been. Its like a mini vacation, but its mostly a change without succumbing to the actual change. What I mean is, years ago a study was done, and according to that study, people would shortly begin to make drastic changes in their lives every 5 years, usually in their career. So don't succumb to the study and make their findings correct, and instead just make small changes.
