Hmmm... Erg... Arg... I'll warn you, this is probably really boring, but I just need to write it out.
I'm a bit nervous as I just found out that a neighbor slipped and broke her arm in our shared courtyard... on the sidewalk right outside our place.
Ya see, we have this great big nasty-ass tree that sheds these damndable berries every fall. That combined with rainfall makes for one of the worst messes you've ever seen. We try to keep up with it, but it's really impossible. They just keep coming. We've complained that the groundskeepers need to check on it more often, but, well... They still don't.
Anyway, one of the roommates talked to the injured lady and she was a bit angered, insinuating that the tree is our responsibility... which it is not. The complex is responsible for grounds keeping. Not to mention that it's a SHARED COURTYARD. We just happen to live closest to where the tree comes out of the ground. And we even have a series of planters that keeps the walkway separate from our patio.
Anyway, I talked to the parentals last night and they mentioned that the complex had been trying to call them - the number came up on their caller ID. (Dad had to co-sign for me those years ago, but I've since had him taken off the lease.)
I thought nothing of it at the time, figuring it another in the complex's long series of fuck-ups. (they've lost more of our rent checks than I can remember. Seriously, for once the tenants are the innocent party.) But now having learned that someone hurt themselves in proximity of our place, I'm nervous...
I tried to call the office and find out who in management was trying to get a hold of us. Naturally, they had no idea.
FUCKERS!
...Though it's my own fault for living in a bureaucratic nightmare - 20,000 people in this "community." I like to describe it as what would have happened if the commies took over.
So, with all of this hanging out there with no explanations, in the sue-happy Mecca known as L.A. (support your local starving lawyer! *insert my middle finger here*), I'm just a little on edge...
