A fairly uneventful weekend. Just a lot of sorting through crap and continuing the effort to make my abode a bit more Functional. Yeah, thats the word. Functional. Because clean is still a ways off.

On Saturday night we got out to see What The #$*! Do We Know? If you havent heard of it, dont be surprised, its gotten absolutely no PR Which I think is somewhat intentional. Its partly a discussion of quantum physics as it relates to spirituality, juxtaposed with the story of a woman (played by Marlee Matlin) who experiences/illustrates how these processes/phenomena manifest themselves in our lives.

No, seriously

Overall, I thought it was interesting, but if youve ever contemplated the basics of quantum physics this probably wont be breaking any new ground for you. Whats most interesting is how these philosophers and especially the scientists begin to actually process the ideas of spirituality through a scientific lens. Unfortunately the narrative portion of the film felt like a bad student film; uninspired and superficial.

But I was very happy to learn that my Bullshit Detector is still functional. Ya see, they dont tell you who the talking heads are until the end. And while they all expressed some thoughts that I agreed with and some that I did not, there was one woman who continued to give me the willies. I mean she was even dressed like a Bond villain! There was one point where I literally wanted to jump out of my seat and shout, Do have any fucking idea what youre saying!?! Is that not the same argument humanity heard from such great thinkers as the Nazis and Stalinists???

Well finally at the end, as each talking head was given introduction, with most being revealed as PHDs in physics, philosophy, etc., this nutcase was revealed as Ramtha. Well actually, Ramtha is but the spirit being channeled by this woman, J.Z. Knight. Anyhoo, I breathed a great sigh of relief, but couldnt help but wonder why they included her. Especially considering how much she potentially undermines what the others are trying to communicate.

Overall Id say this was an amusing half hour of Nova-styled programming with an hour of crap propping it up to feature length. Of course, seeing this with a crowd of tragically hip, L.A. intellectuals meant that I had to endure the round of applause at the end. I wanted to shout at them: It wasnt THAT great Fuck! Go read a book, people.

Ahhh L.A.

Heres a spiritual question: Do you think God, or the supreme intelligence, or whatever you want to call it, intentionally put LA on a large fault line? Like God knew that the sparkling ocean would draw all the no-minds like a moth to flame, or a baby to jingling keys And finally, just as Hollywood hits critical mass and releases something like Catwoman, well finally see a magnitude 9.9 thinning of the herd?

Yeah, I know I live here too Sorry, too much coffee this morning

I had planned to see that but your review pretty much confirmed my fears. An awareness of the insipidness of the L.A. non-intelligentsia (I'm local too, of course) and the possibility of SoCal's charms serving as a siren song to facilitate cultural cleansing via force majeure have floated through my consciousness once or thrice as well.

See you Sunday?

How is that question spiritual? I see I missed an earlier entry, so in response to your last journal: the only reason I wouldn't tell you face to face that I don't like your disappearing for a month or more is, well, I haven't met you face to face (to the best of my knowledge anyway).

Your "thinning of the herd" comment though invokes a problem.. because if all of Cali and most of the western seaboard were to collapse, we'd still be stuck with most of our politicians and other dead-heads that never went near the water.

I've fallen... and I can't get up!
