Needless to say I was at the first screening of Superman Returns at the Chinese on Tuesday night!

Overall, it was pretty cathartic. Its the movie that should have been made twenty years ago; the capstone to a trilogy of Richard Donner films that never was.

Basically, Superman Returns succeeded where The Phantom Menace failed. The nostalgia factor was running at an eleven, while still allowing the characters to evolve. Everything, from the opening credits to the final shot of Supes soaring over the Earth took me back to those happy days flying around the house in my cape and Underoos. I think thats what made the whole thing so cool and unique. In a day where the studios are eager to remake anything and everything, it was nice to see a movie pay genuine respect to the past.

Now, with all of that having been said, I will also say that I was a little disappointed with the treatment of Lex. Spaceys a worthy successor to the Hackman and his performance is a lot of fun to watch, but the character didnt really offer up anything beyond his being the bad guy. His character, more than any other, could have used a bit of fleshing out. And while the story was the perfect finale to the original films, I am a bit wary of what it could portend for future installments.

But the positives far outweighed the negatives and I cant wait to see it again and again and again.

OK, now that thats out of the way

I GOT A NEW CAR!!!

A Honda Pilot, to be exact. It was a little painful having to renounce my loyalty to GM, but efficiency and reliability ultimately won out this time around.

I was particularly proud of my negotiation skills. I came in with a number in mind and refused to back down. Now, the beauty of this was that the number I had in mind was for a different model car. My brain had somehow flip-flopped the price of the Pilot for the CRV, thus I was REALLY low-balling the salesmen. They all kept telling me I was crazy if I thought I was going to get one for the price I demanded. But, lo and behold, one of the dealerships finally met my price! Three cheers for the power stick-to-itiveness!

Anyway, Im just happy that I can get on the freeway now without having say a Hail Mary beforehand.

Lets see What else?

The funeral for P.E.s Grandma was last Friday. Thankfully it was a pretty quick ceremony though Ill never understand why people still have open casket funerals. Thats really not the way I want to remember someone, all waxy and laying in a box. And whats with the people who insist on saying shit like, wow, he or she really looks great!

As compared to what???

Cause if theyre looking great at their funeral, they must have gone through life a very sick person!

Anyway, the rest of the weekend was dedicated to cleaning out her old house and selling as much as we could in a yard sale. It was quite an undertaking; more like an archeological expedition, really. And it was a little sad, even for me. Sorting through old pictures and whatnot, I could see that that the battered old house I was rummaging through used to be a warm, happy place full of life.

Such is this grotesque comedy we call life, I suppose.

Anyway, hope all is well with yas. smile
