w took me to the guggenheim today and we got in for free with his conde nast pass. we went to see the moving pictures show which had a lot of good stuff; nan goldin, felix gonzales-torres, and kara walker.
my favorite piece was a video installation by patti chang. two monitors showed two videos. one was footage of the artist french kissing her mother. while they kissed, they passing an onion back and forth with their mouths until they had eaten the whole thing. the effects of the raw onion made them both cry the entire time, which was eerie and kind of beautiful. the second video showed the artist doing the same thing with her father.
crazy. w and i wondered how she got her parents to do it. i don't know how willing my parents would be to make out with me, even if it was in the name of art.
the thunderstorm tonight was so close i could feel our floorboards rattling.
