Word of the Day:
Candor n: 1: whiteness or brilliance 2: freedom from prejudice or malice 3: unreserved, honest, or sincere expression: forthrightness
This straightforward noun traces back to the Latin candere ("to shine or glow"), which in turn derives from the same ancient root that gave Welsh language can ("white") and the Sanskrit language candati ("it shines"). Other candere descendants include "candid," "incandescent," and "candle." We also have "candent" (a synonym of "incandescent" in the sense of "glowing from or as if from great heat") and "excandescence" (a feverish condition brought on by anger or passion).
