In the end one should do what's best for him or her, but not until he or she has all the information to process, so I agree with you, especially if a friend may be adversely impacted by what you decide.
As for set ideas, you love burlesque so maybe there's an idea that hasn't been done before (every set has to do with undressing so maybe if you make it more of a traditional burlesque routine it would be cool).
Beyond that I have no ideas at all. Thankfully for all concerned I have never done a set!
