i went on a bit of a caper last night, in victoria. i have learned some lessons about risk taking behavior and i did not do anything overtly dangerous. mistakes at some levels have consequences outside my ability to pay.
today i learned that crazy hangovers are as bad in any time zone!

i love the moment when i get off a plane near the coast. in that moment of clarity i understand jungian collective unconscious. my highland soul forgets the generations of dry and sings for the sea.

I love to be at sea, not because of any sense of collective, but because I love the feeling of isolation. The rocking of the boat, staring off the starboard side, alone with my thoughts, the waves enveloping me, covering me, like the quilt I used to hide under when I was a child.
Port towns are different, so busy, they teem like colonies of social insects. I get snapped back from my isolation and become immersed in the humanity around me, reveling in it like a swine in a wallow. At my very best I am swine with illusion of being divine, blessed, yet my humanity fails me time and time again, leaving me alone, in a crowd with only my animal instincts and the smell of salt water to keep me sane.

Your eyes are open. It is said that when a monk reaches a state of enlightenment, they experience a constant epiphany.
I fully believe that we experience the grandest epiphany when we die and return to the universal fold. We return to the state that the enlightened live in.
Which brings the question, why be enlightened all the time if that's where we're going to end up anyways? Is the point of life to experience the human condition from our narrow point of perspective with little glimpses into the great truths or is it to try and attain the state we arrive at ultimately in the end?
A better comparison is to look capturing a place or instant with a photograph versus seeing it with your eyes in all of its splendor and ugliness. Sometimes the photograph, as a focused and framed recording, is more beautiful and captures the emotional essence of the moment better than just walking around looking at the place. To be alive as a human is a chance to experience the universe from a unique and focused perspective, delve down into the micro before returning to the macro...
