i come from a family who, historically, has had difficulty honouring the gifts we all have. we are all blessed beyond belief. this year i resolve not to engage in any dispute or disagreement; i will smile and nod instead of saying anything acerbic. i will laugh whenever possible. and finally i will leave if i find it too difficult to stick to these resolutions.

And there is always next year. Perhaps they'll learn and grow, as you have and will, and in the future, a happy holiday will be had.
Hmm. It seems our personal philosophies may overlap even more that I'd thought previously. Must look into this in the New Year.
