Congratulations on the move to San Francisco. In my humble opinion it's 10 times the city that LA is. SF is a real city with people on the street and neighborhoods with identity. LA is a desert parking lot filled with 14 million people going the same place Im going. Of those 14 million people in the LA basin, about 13,999,900 are complete flakes, chessballs frauds, hucksters or some other of type of cretin. You can leave SF quickly and get out of the city if that is your want. In LA you have to drive for hours and hours to really leave the city.

There are loads of flakes in SF too, but theyre not as bad. SF has a sense of authenticity and real culture that LA cant touch. The pedestrian scale of the city makes getting around very easy, that is unless you feel that you must drive everywhere you go. Taking the trains & buses makes life easy. The City is only 7 miles by 7 miles square and taking a cab is pretty cheap from the Haight to the Mission for example. I had a scooter while there and that was very convenient. I lived in SF for 5 years and met many real people and miss them greatly. I hope to move back there some day when my career is more solid.

I hope you find as much pleasure there as I did.

What are you going to be doing in SF??

How's things in Waterloo? I was recently in Iowa City seeing my parents and it got very fucking cold, I feel your pain.

"Nobody Walks in LA"

I used to live & work in Culver City west of the 405 and would run to the beach every day, so as far as living is LA is concerned, I had it pretty good. West Side has better weather & air. I rarely had to get on the freeway, but if I wanted to see friends, family or a show I had to drive at least an hour. There is definitely some cool shit there, but the grief ultimately wasn't worth it. I moved back to San Francisco as soon as I found a show. Sum total = 5 months 3 weeks in LA. I was working in film production so LA was the obvious place to be but struggling in S.F. was far better for me than living In LA where jobs were plentiful. I think i'm in the minority here, cause many people love it there, in fact about 14 million, but to each their own.

I hope you have a successful trip and accomplish what you set out to

i leave tomorrow.
i've been completely re-assessing evey small decision i'm making right now.
i got the phone call from sf i'd been waiting for and now it's all up to me.
i've never been good at making decisions.
KingInk can affirm that.

but more than anything i'm thrilled to be moving on, away from my job.
not enough anything there, too small. i've outgrown...

on my mind: the inner debate over personal ID.
I still maintain it's because none of my pictures really look like me. b says as he gets older he's less photogenic. i'll run with that for now.

quote from today "i don't think i can live without blue cheer on my ipod"
i'm still lost in this idea.

all these days are long and lonely (perhaps because it's eternally dark when i'm outside).

i'd like to curl up next to someone and listen to nagisa ni te and then muslimgauze. how adorable and pathetic.
nadoc:
Wow! You have a very unique taste...
silvercharmer:
You're super pretty... just thought I'd tell you that...
