ok, time to get a little deep on you guys.... here is a post Im putting on all the pages I visit. Id be interested in hearing advise from here.
So... those of you that have been following me, know I'm about to be a single man again, (just waiting for the judge to sign the papes) and got back from Afghanistan in December. So... well, all of these things came to a head, and now I see myself at a crossroads of sort. More of a life impacting crossroads. For those of you that are interested in knowing where I am at, and would like to give me some advice on how to tackle these issues... cool, read on. Those of you not, kindly bounce. or post. I care not.
Well, Im 33 now, I've got some college in me, not much. Did some Community college growing up, joined the military, fullfilled requirements to get an AA in the Korean language. I've been in two serious relationships (not concurrently) and am now single. I've got a little under 2 years left in the military. I can choose to stay in, go indefinite, and after 20 yrs collect a pension, amongst other benefits. (Personally, as weird as this may sound, this is probably the safest route to take, albeit it runs the risk of going downrange again. Not that I couldnt do it again if I had to, I just rather not.) I leave the military with gifts, I've got this GI Bill that will pay up to the highest tuition rate for a Public school in any state, or out of state even. I leave with a clearance that can net me a job making close to, if not more than 100k/yr. Do I want to go this route?
Not so sure, but I am glad I have this option in my back pocket, and would like to resort to it should everything else fail (working in my industry). Finally, even though I spent 10 years with my exwife, 8 of which we were married, I don't think it was a waste of time. It was time well spent with someone that understood me at the time, and whose company I appreciated. I leave now with a recently bought house, a timeshare i can care less for, pretty good standing credit wise, and a whole lot of motivation to get on with the next step in my life. I am leaning on going to school. School has always been a big thing for my family, and they've always wanted to see me be a professional, whatever that means.
As you can see, I've got options. I personally want to go the Business route. I think business is a necessary tool in todays economy, and can do nothing but help you more than hurt. I'd like to see myself add language into my studies, and do something with real estate (although the market is crap right now) Eventually, I'd like to settle down, open up a bar, have a couple of houses on the market, and relish at the dream of what it would be like to work in the NBA in some sort of position that doesnt involve ticket sales, concession stand, security, or playing (although I'd give playing a square shot!) hahaha.
My question is, and this is primarily directed to the older heads, and contemporary heads, if you had an opportunity like this, where would you go? What would you do? What schools would you look to? If you are in the business, or attending that school, what makes any school better than the other? If you work for the NBA in a more serious capacity, what helped you get there? Realtors... do you still see success doing what you are doing full time? can you do it part time, and earn a little on the side? Thanks ahead of time for the feedback, you guys that are my friends are so for a reason.
