It's amazing how quickly things can happen. I received a phone call the Friday before last telling me my sister had a large brain tumor and that it was bad. I drove 5 hours to get to her thinking the worst. Surprisingly, she showed no outside signs anything was wrong, but we were given a dire prognosis: inoperable and she could litterally drop dead any minute. It was a miserable week sitting there expecting the worst. Last Friday we were again given the bad news, but directed back here to Detroit to see some specialists at Henry Ford Hospital. We came back Monday, met with a surgeon and set up the surgery. She went under the knife yesterday and thank God (really) she came out of surgery in perfect condition; no complications, no motor damage, etc. I saw here again today and other than being a bit tired, she was great. Up, walking a bit. Eating dinner. Crabbing about the nurses. She is young, 28, which is what made this both unusual and gave her a great fighting chance. She still has to undergo follow up treatment, but to go from no hope to normal is amazing. What was also hard to accept was that the surgeon who did such a life saving service, acted like an average Joe. People often complain about doctors, but there are some that are just absolutely incredible. It was also amazing to see how her friends supported her. We actually had close to 100 different people call or stop to see her before the surgury. If you count your weath by the number of friends you have, she is truely rich.
So what's the point of all of this? Well, my way of life has been, things always happen for a good reason. Even as horrible as this has been, something really wonderful is going to happen for my sister. It was obvious that many people love her and need her. The fact that something so awful could happen to someone so good means she is paying her dues for something even better (maybe she'll find that perfect boyfriend she's been looking for). So, instead of complaining about things that don't go your way, say to yourself, "This happened for a reason and if I wait, something better will come along." For me, this has always been true and I'm hoping the same will be true for my sister as well.

I hope she continues to progress and is ok. My dad was injured at work a few years and almost died, so I know what your going through. It was a rough 3 months before he was well enough to go home. One thing is that now I've been really close to him ever since and I make the time to visit often because you never know when that day will come.

You are right. I've spent more time with my family in the last two weeks than I did all year (they live 300 miles away) so that has been nice.
Haven't seen you at the gym lately. There are a lot of werewolves around (big, fat guys with hairy backs that inexplicably wear tank tops). I need to start packing silver bullets.
