I just spent about an hour working on my back yard. I spent an hour or so at it yesterday too. The guy who lived here before was not concerned with the state of it, so it's pretty out of control. Overgrown with mugwort, foxtails, clover, grass, nasturtiums, and dandelions. There are also a number of strange, rotting wooden items, plastic things, and other unidentifiable flotsam buried in the herbiage. It is quite unkempt. Today and yesterday I just worked on ripping out weeds and excessive flowering plants. I like nasturtiums, but I don't really need a whole lawn of them.
My backyard also has a greenhouse, which I hope to use to start some seedlings, maybe even tomatoes. My neighborhood is very foggy most of the time, and the soil is mainly sand. I'll be looking for plants that can do well with damp darkness and sandy soil. Probably rosemary, jasmine, possibly lavender. I also want to plant carpet of snow because it's hardy, adaptable, and pretty.
In addition to plants I want to lay down some tile or brick so there's a makeshift patio. My man and I love to grill and it would be good to have a surface to stand on and set the grill on.
I'm so lucky to have a back yard in this city. It's not huge, but it's no postage stamp either. I'm really looking forward to the day when it's beautiful and useful.

Thank you for bringing some intelligent commentary to the CE boards recently, it seems like it has been a long time.
Personally, I didn't find anything you said aggressive or anything like it. Questions are questions, and yours were good ones.
Mushrooms, and a mossy lawn!! Ferns, hostas. Soo pretty, and easy!
Just like you.
Miss your sweet ass like woah! I may need a summer road trip.
