There was a major lightning storm last night. I knocked out about 1/2 of the power in Las Cruces for a good 30-60 minutes. I was studying in the library when the power went out and the electronic doors shut on us. It took them about 10 minutes to come open the doors and let us out. I guess they didn't want anyone stealing their precious 70 year old dictionaries.
On a sad note though, my 5G iPod died. I purchased this 5G iPod back in the fall of 2005, it is the 60GB model. It worked when I was walking to the library but, after the lightning hit near the library, it simply won't come back on. The person unlocking the doors told us that a transformer had been blown. I figure that a EMP must have been emitted as my cell phone even turned off then turned back on with only 1/4 of the battery left (it was full). I purchased a 2G iPod shuffle today to hold me over. The shuffle only has a 1GB capacity but it should do the job until I purchase a 6G iPod later this fall. At least the shuffle is really small so I can take it with me to more places. Still, it pisses me off that my 5G iPod broke.
I guess the next thing to go would be my desktop computer as I purchased that back in 2002, then my Xbox 360, then my notebook, etc. That is how it goes, one thing breaks then something else immediately breaks down after that.
