thanks to aspen alerting us to this website of nyc freebies, i went and saw david sedaris speak at the barnes and noble in union square tonight. he spoke in indiana right after i moved away, but that was $$$ and this was freefreefree.
he was mostly promoting a collection of his favorite essays, called children playing before a statue of hercules, which gives all profits to 826 NYC. i was going to buy it and get an autographed, but the place was a madhouse and i didn't have the patience or desire to wait.
that said, all of his stories were new to me, his voice is just a little bit amazing and he told us he could live the rest of his life without ever hearing music again.
in other free nyc news, they're showing ferris beuller's day off at a park outside my apartment, but nyc hasn't realized it's june and still chooses to be cold cold cold. 55 degrees does not make for an outdoor moviegoing experience. not in my cold-hearted snake of a world.
