I'm trying to figure out where is my favorite city.

I took one of those online quizes and it told me I belong in Norkfolk, which appears to be a Navy town. So no. I'm not totally opposed to visiting the Virginias and Carolinas. Well, maybe just Virginia and North Carolina. It seems warmish and pretty, but it might be too tobacco-y and pro-slavery for me, right? It's probably just a place to visit once, not live.

NYC is too $$$. Basically I want to live somewhere where I can easily afford and move a big, comfortable leather couch into my living room. So here not only could I not afford it, but I don't want to have one of those Friends moments where Ross is trying to get the couch up the stairs in his apartment building. Pivot! Piv-ot! Piv-et!! Piv-ett!!! Piv-et!

I LOVE Los Angeles, but I don't want to live there if I have the 9-5 commute to work every day. And it's a touch suburban/strip-mallish. And we can't all hole up in the Hollywood Hills. And I don't speak any Spanish.

San Francisco is too unnatural, although it does offer a notably high proportion of my favorite SG members.

Chicago should have stopped existing after the decline of the meatpacking industry.

So I'm thinking maybe Seattle? Do you have any interesting things to tell me about Seattle?

And yes, I've been there.

Norfolk/Virginia Beach is my hometown. It's definitely a Navy town, but Virginia Beach is a soulless expanse of strip malls, whereas Norfolk has historical areas and culture and all the creative people who've fled the 'burbs. Even to someone wo chooses to live in NY, there's something nice about little pockets of coolness, where there are only so many bars, but they're good, so you know where to find everybody.
