Wait! Where did that Fork in the road go?!

People are very divided on the past. A lot of people want you to live for today, and don't look back. That philosophy is best suited for individual moments where the list of reasons why to say no is stacked pretty high, but the one reason to say yes is the best reason of all, because you truly and dearly want to! As a day to day guiding principal it falls pretty short. You can spend every penny in your bank account and explain to the bill collectors that Robin Williams and Queen Latifah inspired you to do so, but they will not care.

On the other hand, constantly looking backwards and reflecting on your past will cause you to either walk into a telephone pole or completely miss out on all the great things you could be doing right now! Like reading this blog! So we must find a balance of learning from our past mistakes, but not being terrified of making new ones. A life without mistakes would be a terrible one indeed. If you hear a sad song on the radio and it does not resonate with you a little, then stop what you are doing and go do something extremely memorable that ends in a big fiery ball of pain! Propose to your postman, challenge a huge person to a fight, sing I will always love you, at a crowded karaoke bar, or find a new and clever way to humiliate yourself! Trying to toss out your pass entirely is a mistake. These choices brought you here. These decisions and events made you who you are. To totally disregard them is a big mistake.

Since I have made a huge amount of mistakes in my life I have learned a lot, and I have much wisdom to share. Unfortunately this wisdom is useless to anyone but myself, because we all have to fail on our own. The greatest writer in the world, could not write a manual for your life. No matter how much detail and care was given to the endeavor, it still would not make sense to anyone who had not experienced it. And, even if by some miracle you were to actually convince someone to try it your way, without them having done it theres, they would wonder if that was right and probably agonize over it until they died.

I have not lost my original point! I have come to many forks in the road, and I can see how the dots connected based on my choices. The question I have now is, where is the next one? I have been walking in a too straight line for a while now, and I am ready for another choice. I have always prided myself on jumping on opportunities as they arise, but I have also never been good at creating them. Now tomorrow may very well provide that chance, and I promise I will be ready to jump with both feet and grab on to it for dear life. Until that time, I will just keep ambling down this straight line, full of good advice, bursting at the seems with passion to share, and keeping it all to myself.
