The kindness of Strangers.

One of the things that struck me most about living in Japan was the kindness of strangers. You could ask someone for directions, and not only would they try to explain where you should go, many times they would actually take you there. From helping me to figure out which train to take, to teaching about the proper way to wear my Yukata, I found many beautiful souls in that country.

No reason why we cant emulate that spirit back here at home. Im a shy person by nature, but Im resolved to make a better effort to help my fellow human. That being said, Ive met a lot of great people through this site recently, and I feel lucky to have done so. We often dont realize how big of an impact we have on other peoples lives. The kind words of a stranger at the end of a rotten day can really help you out. Hopefully all of us have recieved a beautiful smile from a stranger on the street and it really picks you up. Just that tiny connection for that briefest of moments is enough of a reminder that we are all sharing the same planet.

We are living in an age of fear, and fear is what keeps us from being who we want to be. We walk around petrified of things that are more real in our imaginations than anywhere else. Of course there are a lot of terrible things in this world, but thats no reason to withdraw into yourself like a kid hiding under their bed sheets. If at the end of the day you really dont what youre doing, or why you did anything you did today, thats not a good place to be. If we can shake off the fear for a few hours and be ourselves, wouldnt you sleep sounder? I know I do.
