i hereby encourage everyone this november to give the great big 'fuck off' to both the democratic and republican candidates. there are reasons aplenty for each, and i encourage you too instead cast your vote for libertarian michael badnarik. i know some of you will say, 'why would i waste a vote on someone who could not win?' and to you who live in swing states with only the narrowest of margins, i will agree. but for the rest of us, the electoral system borders on being a fraud. with the college leaning so much in favor of smaller states and with rules against division of electoral votes, it may come as a surprise to learn that your vote may not matter. in my state of virginia, for example, the college votes will almost certainly go to bush, making a vote cast for kerry a helpful statistic, and little else.

G W BUSH

besides, both of these men are completely unfit for office. george w. bush, for starters, has committed the nearly unforgivable crime of being so inept as to actually make john kerry look appealing. he has been a sporadic supporter of destructive protectionist policy ranging from the profane and already bloated farm-subsidy racket, to tariffs on foreign steel and textiles.

or what about the cia agent whose cover was blown by a white house official after her husband spoke out against administration claims about agency intelligence? if any regular citizen committed such a severe breech of security you could bet theyd be sitting in a cell at this moment, with many years likely ahead. but the administration has done nothing to bring the leak to justice.

his foreign policy has been a dangerous joke, as he consistently ignores the advice of those most knowledgable diplomats and foreign affairs specialists in washington. most notable is colin powell, who has vowed to step down from his position regardless of who gets elected. and who can blame him after such constant humiliation from this administration?

then, of course, we come to the situation in iraq. regardless of whether you think that it was justified or not, there is no question that it has been mismanaged and rushed in its entirety. from the number of troops deployed to the lack of a coherent plan and policy for reconstruction efforts, it has been a fiasco.

his economic policy is absolute nonsense, with as everyone knows a currently tremendous budget deficit. and a larger one looming on the horizon. our country is not producing real growth, only credit-induced boom. this behavior leads to bubbles and overproduction which can only be followed by stagnation and/or recession. the insistence on tax cuts without regard for the ballooning deficit is absolute irresponsibility. More than 50% of those polled in a recent Economist survey of economics professors responded that Bush's overall economic policy was bad or very bad.

one could go on for quite some time, but moving on. . .

JOHN KERRY

where to begin with john kerry?

this all comes from someone who doesn't give a damn about his military or political service to our country. but any responsible adult with half a brain must realize that mr kerry is in fact the farthest left senator in washington. he has consistently voted for tax rises for all classes and state-controlled health, education, savings, etc. And also from someone who spent some time resigned to voting for mr kerry, he is inconsistent. perhaps not very much more than the current administration, but for someone to get my vote they must be better, not simply different.

kerry suggests that were he to be president, there would suddenly and miraculously appear a vast coalition of allies willing to shoulder the burden that we have created in the middle east. this is utter nonsense. there is no tremendous shortage of international cooperation with the US. living in washington and working in diplomacy and foreign policy has shown me this: respecting the president and liking him/her are two different things. the current president is respected, but resented. i fail to see kerry gaining the respect of other world leaders.

kerry says that he will cut the deficit in half in 4 years. this is bunk (niether will bush). he proposes a tax rise that will total perhaps $860 million, and then proposes to rush all of it to his new health care plan. peruse his website, and it is obvious he will be no more fiscally responsible than bush.

the kerry health plan will do little more than push the US healthcare system farther down the path on which it has been travelling for some 30-40 years. we have the least regulated and subsequently best-quality healthcare system in the world, while not the most equitable. sure, in canada everyone has guaranteed health care, but you have to wait on average 150 days for an MRI, but just 3 in the US. that could be the difference between life and death. as government has tried to slowly socialize medicine, there is problem not unlike the moral hazard, wherein if a good becomes public, then there is a natural tendency to overconsume. this describes why prices are so high in this country. there is no price competition, which the kerry plan would only worsen by guaranteeing even more benefits to even more people.

a recent survey from the economist of 56 American economics professors shows that less than 30% thought kerry would do well in terms of trade if elected. this comes, from among other things, his absurd campaign against outsourcing and foreign profits. part of the reason our country has been so successful and able to help other countries economically is from its relatively liberal trade policies. kerry plans to close 'loop-holes', or intentional trade laws that allow companies to invest overseas, providing jobs and higher incomes to foreigners and a reasonable return (considering greater risks) for companies. the same survey cited above reveals that fewer than 20% of those economists polled thought outsourcing was any sort of problem at all, with only around 5% saying it was a bad or very bad problem.

finally, kerry is straight-out lying when he says he will propose middle-class tax cuts to ease the burden on american families. the programs he intends to implement (particularly the health issue) can absolutely not be funded by rolling back tax cuts for the richest and giving new ones to middle class families. he has yet to explain how he plans to pay for anything proposed.

there are also basic philosophical questions regarding the role of government in our lives. and frankly, the kerry/edwards team frightens me. kerry being a socialist and edwards being a populist, i fear the requirement that government manage (or mismanage) my retirement, health access, income, education, etc.

therefore i encourage all of you young idealists to take a stand based on principle and vote badnarik.

here are some of the things they stand for:

-oppose racial profiling or discrimination in any form, including affirmative action; equal treatment under law without exception.

-end the war on drugs, which targets young black men, fills expensive prisons, and wastes billions of dollars.

-enforce the right of contract, which includes marriage. policy of protecting homosexuals' right to enter into binding marriage contract.

-lifestyle choice is a personal right.

-unconditional support for the right to keep and bear arms.

-'eliminate federal withholding taxes'.

-volunteer forces only.

-veteran benefits and pay-- one of the few areas where spending should be increased.

-break the two-party system.

-treason and counterfeiting are the only true federal crimes.

-all law enforcement is local.

-allow state and local governments to set their own gun laws.

-stop tying up law enforcement in the War on Drugs. let them pursue real criminals.

-to reduce the number of abortions, streamline the adoption process, oppose tax funding for abortion, and educate.

-establish a hard-currency system.

-eliminate minimum wage laws, thereby decreasing overall unemployment and creating viable entry-level jobs.
