Well, just saw two very great movies.

Sideways was just perfect in every way shape and form. Never could I say enough about this movie. The acting, the story, the cinematography, everything was beyond perfect. This is probably one of the best films I will ever see. Some parts of it had me laughing harder then I have since I first saw Napoleon Dynamite. The ending TOTALLY pissed me off, but it worked and made the movie stronger. Still, I want to bitch slap Alexander Payne - despite my loving his work (he is a tremendous director).

The only other thing I can say about Sideways is to GO FUCKING BUY IT!

The Grudge. Well, I could not have expected less out of this movie, yet it delivered in stellar fashion. This is top notch filmmaking. Anyone interested in making a horror film needs to study this movie over and over and over again. Sure, I would have preferred someone other then Sarah Michelle Gellar (spl?), but that's just cause I don't like her. Even still, she did a terrific job. I knew where every shock was, but, then again, I always do, so I can't fault it on that. Still, even if it is mildly predictable that's only a good thing if you ask me. Take a movie like Saw that had this megahuge surprise at the end that really made the movie for a lot of people, yet the rest of the movie just sucked. The surprise wasn't much of a fucking surprise, and the story was pretty contrived and reeked of a half dozen other movies of that genre. The writing was ok, the editing was very good, the acting was phenomenal, but the cinematography and set production looked like they were left over from the Se7en set. Yet I digress. Just keep in mind that The Grudge is a very scary movie and damn worth watching.

Also watched Rolling Kansas, apparently written and directed by Thomas Haden Church (of Sideways). Entertaining movie, a little weird and cooky, but it worked and was mildly funny. The characters were surprisingly strong, and Church's cameos were excellent, as was Rip Torns character. The strength of the characters is what really made it - they are stereotypical without being stereotypical. For example, the big guy isn't all muscle and no brain, even though Church obviously wanted people to think that. If you cough in the right parts of the movie, you'll never realize how smart and kind that big guy was and you'll end up just thinking him a stereotype.

This time change has got me fucked up.

I can't afford to sleep in until five o' clock today, so I either need to stay up all day long, or go to sleep right now and wake up in four hours. Probably I'll do a little mix of both (if possible).
