I'm seriously bummed out because I missed the Ani DiFranco concert in Austin last night. I was too sick to go by myself - that's a lot of driving for a guy as sick as I. One of these days, when I have the time, I'm going to take a plane just to go to a concert wherever I can meet up with her.

On the other hand, I am pretty happy in that I now own a Garret T3 turbocharger unit. biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin Now what to do with it?? Have no fear, friends, I have plans forming within plans in my mind here.

I'm going to feel my two older brothers out and see if either of them are as much into fast cars/trucks as me. If so, then when I move to Seattle I'm going to set up an old school Chevy pickup (early sixties to late seventies) in one of their garages and have them help me build a twin turbo speed demon.

I'm already building the setup in my mind, as it'll be entirely custom. I want to use a huge dump truck turbo, if I can find one in decent shape, and definitely intercoolers from old dump trucks and/or semi trucks. I want to get a huge turbo, just a monster one, maybe even off of some mining equipment, and charge that with the other turbo, but I don't know how good of an idea that would be. The T3 is a fairly small turbo, rated for a max HP or something like 300hp, and flows only about 450cfm (which is good if you're working on an import), but what would happen if I plugged that into a system pushing more like eight or nine hundred hp? Then again, I could just upgrade it and change out the internals, but the gains for that would be kind of small. Fuck it, why not give it a shot? The beauty of a turbo is if you blow out the internals, the engine will still work (though it wouldn't be smart to just leave it there).

OR, I could just run a big diesel turbo off of both headers, but that's a lot of tubing and a lot of heat and a lot of other stuff. Still, it wouldn't be a street driven truck...well...maybe a little, but it'd be mostly for the strip.

Gonna have to look into that a little more. wink I bet I could talk my buddy into letting me turbocharge his SVT biggrin

Porsche used two turbos on the 959 , one small and one large , the small turbo would spool up first to eliminate the lag involved with the large turbo for a smoother more continuous power curve . Vovlo Penta uses a supercharger with an electomagnetic clutch to deliver early boost before the turbo spools up on some of its marine deisels biggrin

I use a Dart Iron Eagle small block stroked to 434 cubic inches , with 15 : 1 static compression and almost 24 : 1 dynamic compression , and a nitrous fogger kit , It makes peak horsepower at just over 10,000 RPM and now the bolts holding the ring gear to the spool in the rear end actually shear after three or four runs in my vette . And I use custom grade nine aircraft bolts that cost $400.00 dollars a box to hold that fucking ring gear on mad I used to use old factory 400 small blocks to build my strokers , but they would often not have uniform cylinder wall thickness resulting in cracked blocks , and I would have to grind my cams down to .750 " to clear the rod bolts , that is not a problem with the Dart block cause the cam journals are raised .400 " .

I just had a bulk waste pickup at my old house and I had put all my old cams , blocks heads , and intakes out with the trash , you should have seen all the local gear heads out there loading the stuff in their cars and trucks , if they actually have the parts x-rayed they will find out everything they took is junk biggrin
