Good grief! A Charlie Brown Valentine's Day Special!? How fucking cool is that??
Ani DiFranco rocks! ROCKS! R-O-C-K-S!!
Why this obsession with Ani? It freaks out just about everyone I know because I'm not a righteous, angry, feminist lesbian. I kindly point out that she isn't exactly a lesbian herself, but it falls on deaf ears. Fuck them if they don't see her coolness for...

I think I accidentally poisoned myself yesterday at work. Was working with some pretty nasty adhesives and caulks.
Either that, or I'm just having a really shitty day cause I feel worse then this morning, though the headache isn't so bad (six tylenol and three aspirin tend to take the edge off of even the worst headaches).
Man oh man am I fucking tired.

Last time I woke up with a headache this bad it was because someone had hit me upside the head with a nightstick. Well, I don't remember any confrontations with cops last night, but I did overwork myself and was inhaling a half dozen different kinds of noxious fumes at work. Jeebus, this headache is unreal. It hurts so bad I feel like I'm going...

As we speak I'm looking for a second job. If I get a second job, I'll have to quit school - which means I lose my oh so beloved military insurance benefits. So if I get a second job it needs to be one that will hook me up with killer insurance benefits.

My interest in the VW MR2 is waning a little. Not of loss of interest or anything, but price wise. For what it would cost to do that, I could build a 500 cubic inch Chevy C-10. Considering that I could get the truck for about a grand, and a donor car for the 500ci for about a grand,...

Is it weird that I've never seen an IKEA catalog, and didn't even know there were IKEA stores until a couple months ago (I've never seen one, but I have heard of them)? Shit, until two years ago I'd never even heard of IKEA.
i am so utterly and completely tired that I feel like I'll never be anything but tired for the rest of my life....
Whoa, unless the 85-87 MR2 has a shorter wheelbase then the VW Beetle (and I don't think it does), then switching the engine/transaxle from the MR2 to the Beetle looks like an insanely easy thing to do. Course, then there's the whole having to wire it up and whatnot, and get it some fuel.
But I've addressed that. Just put an eight gallon (or two...

I thought the MR2 had it's engine in front of the transaxle , so the engine would practically be in your back seat and the shifter wouldn't be too far out of position , that is if you plan too drop the whole engine and transaxle into the bug
girly:
Thought I'd drop by and say hi. I haven't heard from you in a while.
OK, so the Chevy plan is scraped. Stiles, among others, is right in pointing out that building up the stock VW transmission to take an all-out Chevy V6 would be cost prohibitive.
So, I'm now looking into, a very sure of, a Toyota MR2. Not only is this already a mid-engine, rearwheel drive platform, but it comes with a five-speed manual (usually) transmission. Plus, if...

Dear Sweet Zombie Jeebus!
I just found out something insanely cool.
Apparently this company, Kennedy Engineered Products (or something like that), sells adapter plates to make a VW Beetle transmission bolt up to a 4.3L Chevy V6 (my favorite engine of all time).
Now, I don't know, yet, how much power a stock VW Beetle tranny can take, and I don't expect it to be...

You can have the tranny cryo tempered at 300 below zero and be able to take at least 350 pounds of torque , makes for a nice margin of safety

^^^ Mr Kaos is mistaken.
Feeding 350lb-ft through any bug trans that isn't built to the max with full-race parts will grenade it sky-high, usually by case distortion and failure or diff spider failure.
Bear in mind bug transmissions were designed to deal with a maximum of 70hp, bus transmissions handled about 100hp on their best year.
I used a Rotary because it made great HP with bolt-on mods (175) with less Tq (140) so the trans would last longer. The rotary also fit under a stock decklid and didn't upset the weight balance of the car. My trans was a built IRS unit using a 4-spider super diff, electron beam welded 2nd and 3rd gears, a 4.37 rear gear, KEP 1750lb clutch, rhino case machined for a billet steel case reinforcement, and HD bus CVs with custom axles. I'm probably forgetting a few details. Trans-Form built the trans in Cali, it cost a fortune, and I found out later they were rumored to build a shitty trans. Mine held up fine though, and I caned that car. It only had 600 miles on it when I sold it, but that was 1/4 mile at a time, with a few WFO runs up I-95 for good measure and the rest being driving to and from the airport, where the street racing was.
A few things to think about: iron block/iron head motors are heavy, and you're hanging a motor off the trans case if you're using any VW trans - those are the only motor mounting points. Seriously. Adding all that weight behind the rear wheels will fuck up the handling, even if you put on really wide rear tires ( I used 205/50-15s front/265-50-15s rear). The extra weight and Tq of the engine will likely break the case of the trans on launch, esp. if you run wide rear tires. That engine will also hang out the back of the car a lot, and it's so wide that exhaust routing will likely be a problem.
If KEP still has their FAQ up about engine swaps into VWs, read it carefully. Lotsa good info. If you want to do the 4.3 thing, I'd suggest a Porsche 4 or 5 speed trans out of a later 6-cyl - 3.0L minimum - or Turbo 911/930. They will fit and are usually a lot stronger. Otherwise, you'll be going through transmissions a lot, and that gets very expensive. Trust me on this one.
Another possibility is getting a well-used oval-track sprint car chassis, and reskinning it with the beetle body, which actually unbolts from the stock chassis pan. That way, you're already set up for engne/trans/cooling/brakes and all you need to do is get a regular, slower steering box and the usual street-legal stuff.

I live right down the street from a little back country airport and have a few friends who own planes so for a while around 15 years ago I used to just drive my car up to the pumps and fill up with av gas . Av gas is not the best fuel for performance engines cause of all the additives in it , I primarily run Cam 2 race fuel with various additives that are determined at race time by environmental conditions .... temp ... humidity ...etc.... cause these conditions can affect peak horsepower as much as 150 hp and often affect who wins or loses the race and money , on a good day my motor will generate 1150 hp before dumping up to another 500 hp of nitrous in it . I often do test and tune on a little farm road , and well one of my competitors told the cops , so last sping after doing some suspension work I headed out for a run and just over seven seconds later I'm going by a cop holding a laser at 225 mph , you should have seen him banging the laser on the car thinking it was broken
My employer got turned in by a dissgruntled employee for repairing some scrapped parts without the customers approval " the US military " so I have to spend the next two months in court as a witness for my employers defense team
Most of my consulting work is writing motion control software , electronic repairs and installations and electrical contracting , with some CNC machine repair added in for extra cash .
All you need to start your own consulting firm is a lawyer to create the proper corporation that best fits your needs and a need for your work . There are people out there selling your secrets for $5,000 a pop on video tape

I noticed many small property managment companies popping up all over the place up here in Connecticut , they buy up all these old houses dirt cheap and end up going broke after having lead found in tenants childrens blood from all the lead based paint . You end up eating $200,000 on lead abatement costs for a six unit apartment house that you payed $130,000 for , and all kinds of legal fees and damages . In downtown Meriden some new companies have purchased huge vacant buildings from the town for taxes owed only , some of these buildings can easily be converted into 100 units after a high initial cash outlay to bring things up to code and repair water damage etc....
I'm surprised that you don't want to head to Florida to get in on all the hurricane rebuilding action , it would be a good way develope a fast growing consruction / management firm , and there are many properties just waiting to be taken off the insurance companies hands for a dirt cheap price , shit you could buy an entire residential block to start off with

Porsche used two turbos on the 959 , one small and one large , the small turbo would spool up first to eliminate the lag involved with the large turbo for a smoother more continuous power curve . Vovlo Penta uses a supercharger with an electomagnetic clutch to deliver early boost before the turbo spools up on some of its marine deisels
kreatinkaos:
I use a Dart Iron Eagle small block stroked to 434 cubic inches , with 15 : 1 static compression and almost 24 : 1 dynamic compression , and a nitrous fogger kit , It makes peak horsepower at just over 10,000 RPM and now the bolts holding the ring gear to the spool in the rear end actually shear after three or four runs in my vette . And I use custom grade nine aircraft bolts that cost $400.00 dollars a box to hold that fucking ring gear on
I used to use old factory 400 small blocks to build my strokers , but they would often not have uniform cylinder wall thickness resulting in cracked blocks , and I would have to grind my cams down to .750 " to clear the rod bolts , that is not a problem with the Dart block cause the cam journals are raised .400 " .
I just had a bulk waste pickup at my old house and I had put all my old cams , blocks heads , and intakes out with the trash , you should have seen all the local gear heads out there loading the stuff in their cars and trucks , if they actually have the parts x-rayed they will find out everything they took is junk
