The Good the Bad and the Ugly....

The Good: The first band I saw was Death Cab for Cutie....we skipped the show here in AZ because we knew we'd be seeing them at Coachella. That was a mistake. They are just not the kind of band that should be seen in a big outdoor festival. But, they were really good anyway. The sencond band....the mutha fuckin' Pixies! One of my all time favorite bands. We were really far away, but it was still AWESOME. We also saw Radiohead that night...but that belongs under "the Bad" category. Then next day we got there right in time to see Bright Eyes. That was fucking amazing. I was a fan of Connor Oberst before....but, now I am alike a devoted follower. He is simply one of the best performers I've ever seen in my life. Even the fact that it was a million degrees wasn't bothering me during his set. After that, we moved over to get ready for the Flaming Lips and the Cure. Air was on the main stage when we got over there, and I just have to say they SUCK. But, the Flaming Lips was definately worth sitting through boring Frenchman music. Flaming Lips was surreal to say the least. I'd never seen anything like that before. Giant animals, people in balloons. Huge balloons flying through the audience. We were actually pretty close to the stage. That is about all the good that I got from Coachella 2004.

The Bad: Port-O-Pots...not rad. Port-O-Pots overflowing into the grass, and having to walk through it....even less rad. Water and food costing your life savings. Free water coming from a hose next to the overflowing Port-O-Pots. Having to drive an hour back to Blythe after the first day just to find a motel with a vacancy. Being so freakin far away when Radiohead took the stage that we couldn't even hear anything. Having to leave two songs in to Radiohead's set because we were too far away for it to be worth it. Walking the 1083028403958 miles back to the truck. MIssing most of the bands that I really wanted to see because it was too hot and too crowded.

The Ugly: The heat. That was hands down the worst thing about the whole deal. It was so hot. Water was expensive and it took forever to get any. There was hardly any shade and the places that were covered were packed with people. There were just too many tickets sold. It was insane. There must have been half a million people there. MISSING CURSIVE! We were late the second day cause of a stupid accident on the highway...so, we missed another band I had wanted to see really bad. The worst thing was having a panick attack in the HUGE crowd right before the Cure was set to play, I tried to hold it together for as long as I could stand it, because they are my favorite band....the one band I had wanted to see the most. But, I had to consider passing out and dying....I thought about it, and I figured I would get another chance to see them cause they are on tour right now. So, we left before they even took the stage. I cannot even begin to describe how sad I was walking through the parking lot straining to hear them playing the first song.

There were good points and very bad points. All-in-all I have to say it was not worth the time and they money spent. But, I don't really regret it cause I saw a few really good shows.

glad to hear there will be a next time and that you weren't scared away. when i first arrived on saturday and saw how many people were there, i was convinced it would be my last year. but i still had an amazing time enen though i was further away from most of the bands than i would have liked.

isn't it funny how our minds work like that? i think it's a biological thing to ensure the propagation of the species. because otherwise no women would ever choose to experience the pain of childbirth a 2nd time.
