Beware! Science Geek!
Tonight, i was working the late shift at work, and in my moments of boredom (thinking whilst working.. Yay!) I decided that Science, and Religion cannot co-exist...
My Family (Excepting myself and my brother) are very strong Christians; My Paternal grandfather is a practicing Anglican minister, My Father runs a christian radio station, I grew up in an environment knowing the ins and outs of Christianity...
I respect them for their beliefs, however, and respect the fact they can so passionately belong to something..
but, when I work day to day with Million year old rocks, it kinda shakes the whole religious foundation.. See, I work for a mierals company, and we analyse samples for mining companies.. They submit us Igneous rocks (from volcanic flow), Sedimentry rocks (build up from sand etc over millions of years, with compression) which we then analyse and tell them the concentration of elements in these samples
I feel there is a distinct irony when the sermon at the church is how god created the earth 70,000 years ago in 6 days, when the power for his microphone comes from fossilised swamp over millions of years old!
And they did some pretty nasty things to people who discovered things in the middle of the last millenium.. I believe that they called them witches...
There Is, However one exception to this- The Alchemist.. Appointed by a King, Famously for trying to make Gold by mixing various quantites of their 4 elements (Earth, Air, Water, Fire) They discovered a lot of precursors for modern day chemistry. The Alchemist held a strict discipline of prayer in his Oratory, and working in his Laboratory.. I still find the Arcane knowledge and work ethic of The Alchemist intriguing..
But, nowadays, Commerce is the King, as companies fight for every possible consumer dollar.. The drive for the next gadget, communication device, house, car, etc drives commerce.. But to offer something new, commerce and technology.. And the slave to these new developments is Science!
Science continually evolves through each generation, where as religion is reasonably inflexible.. In the last 200 years with thanks to science, we have been able to move without walking, leave the planet, see in the dark, andcommunicate with each other, and shortly after these technologies are developed, there is an entreprenuer who markets these things, so that we caan't live without them.. Can I remember not having a cell phone? yes, but the thing has been part of me the last 10 years!
Religion on the other hand, whilst embracing technology itself, hasn't evolved as much... 60 Years ago Catholics were still speaking Latin!.. But the strength in religion lies in what Science can't provide!
Life After Death
Religion governs through by what happens after you die.. The concept of Heaven, Hell or Purgatory depending on how you live your life.. be good to everyone, serve with your heart and don't forget to give 10% of your money too the church as well..
I know this seems cynical, but I'm trying to be objective..
So, some day, sooner rather then later there will be a really big clash of science vs religion.. and proof vs belief.. and I know which most people prefer.....
Not looking to pick a fight, just share a point of view!
Peace and Love,
Chris

I'm totally with u on this one. Religion is soooo outdated. and the Bible? Fallible... written and edited by men (who probably thought the earth was flat), not "God." I don't see how so many people can so blindly follow tradition. In my opinion, Christianity is just a cult. btw thanks for the add
