black smoke fills a starless sky
the bridge you longed to burn
is blazing fast below me now
my lesson finally learned

i see your face across the way
lit with maddening flame
your eyes are crazed with victory
but what on earth was gained?

your wretched body covered with soot
your fingers blister and peel
the devils dance around you now
and your heart begins to feel
the loss

as the void once filled with love and life
is consumed in fire and rage
and all that is left for morning light
the turning of the page

and the echos of those fateful words
how bitter they ring true
"in the sunrise of a year, that pain will be gone"

now i see in the end
the pain was always
