the lightening arcs through the clouds
like a messenger from the sun
its speed and power a testament
to the warming rays that wait
behind the turbulent veil of darkness

the sun will rise in time
the wet and tortured earth will lift itself towards it
like the eyes of a man torn with grief
towards words of love and forgiveness
from the soul he cares for most

he stands again
knowing the storm will return and the darkness descend
holding on to the warmth touching his body
relaxing in the sense of peace that surrounds him
if only for a moment
