I keep telling myself I'm going to post here more often. Doesn't seem to happen. I think the problem is that things are going relatively well for me lately. Don't get me wrong, that is definitely a good thing, but it makes for relatively little for me to post about. I tended to use SG to vent or talk about things I couldn't talk about...

Thank you. That's one of the kindest things I've heard in a while.

Did you ever hear back from your friends sister?
melx:
It's good to see you happy. The Bangkok burrito sounds awesome. I'll have to try that too.

I ran in to a friend from law school yesterday who has apparently become homeless. I'm pretty sure he is also suffering from some pretty severe mental illness. I tried to offer him some help but he refused to take it. I'm pretty bummed out about it. Of all the people I knew in law school, he was the most passionate about Justice. He really...

Austin Psych Fest - went this year with a buddy and it was just about perfect.

sorry to hear about your friend - there really isn't that much that separates a lot of people from that state, mental illness notwithstanding. my best to you both

Your last comment on my blog? Maybe the best ever, lol. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. You shouldn't beat yourself up over it though. Mental illness is tough to deal with when it's your everyday, run of the mill, garden variety stuff. The kind of mental illness that helps make one homeless and refuse the offer of help is the kind most of us can't even fully comprehend. You tried. Sometimes the best we can do is hope for the best. Maybe he'll get better, do better, be better. I hope so.

I am once again gainfully employed by another. A large corporation no less. Something I was sure I was too jaded and burned out to ever do again. So far I am loving my new job. I even like the majority of the people. I'm a little worried about who and what that means I have become.

Yay, glad to hear it!. If you like it and it pays the bills, that's all that matters. I wouldn't mind having a job I like for once.
melx:
Hmm, I was actually kind of hoping that you might want to come work where I do. It sounds like you love your new job as much as I do though, so I guess that won't be happening any time soon. Shame. It would have been a riot. If you ever are looking for work, the NPO I work for is awesome and I know they could use a guy like you.

I'm fine, but the back end of my bike is messed up from a guy who decided to pull out of a parking lot as I was riding along the shoulder. Says he didn't see me. I'll give him that it was dark, but how do you, with your lights on, not see something right in front of you when you aren't even moving your...

This is a good question and one which I do not think I'll ever be able to rightly answer.
melx:
Yeah, they really were despite everything. What are you doing now? It would be awesome to work at the same place again.

I've recently acquired a snail mail pen pal. An old friend is overseas and she has no access to the internet. I'd almost forgotten how much more satisfying it is to write an actual letter. And I find I like anticipating the much slower and usually more thoughtful response. There are things I love about the internet but I think we are losing some things...

I write snail mail style to my high school buddy who is in prison. It makes his letters seem more valuable then the friends I keep in touch with via internet and social media.

There is something to be said for a more thoughtful and meaningful dialogue to be found in a letter, a call, or even a personal one on one email.

I enjoyed the Q&A in your last journal, by the way, even the more mundane questions. Glad to hear your wife's operation went well.

I don't normally do these kind of things but I was bored. Blame former SG member Runk, whose interesting and amusing answers inspired me to share far more than most of you would ever want to know. I apologize in advance for my more pedestrian responses.

1. What color is your toothbrush?
Kind of a teal.

2. Name one person who made you smile...

I thought about asking for a hug the other day but passed as I thought i might lose my composure.

I haven't seen one of these lists in a very long time.

Who the hell can afford a maid service anymore?

I am a bundle of nerves. My beloved wife, Corey, is going in for surgery today to repair a herniated disc. They will have to undo her previous spinal fusion and then fuse the new vertebrae to the other two that were fused before. I know she needs it done. I know it will help with her pain, but I still hate it. I wish...

My god there are a lot of sets now. I wonder if anybody actually keeps up with all of them?

Who wants to bring me some girl scout cookies?

That is one of the trade-offs. Spontaneous dreams are very rare. I end up "stepping in" when the dream starts going off track. Though lately I have been reorganizing and manipulating far more then before. Unconsciously looking for something. Just not sure what it is yet.

Not sure what has brought me back here after a near two year absence. There just seems to be something about this site that I have been missing. Not sure I can even articulate what it is. Or that whatever it is (was?) can still be found here. I guess time will tell.

Welcome back! (Has it really been two years?)

I'm doing well, thank you - how have you been? smile

You are so right. I finally realized how much and I did quit.

I have missed you too. How are you? I can't believe it is you. biggrin

"Poker is the hardest way to make an easy living"

I don't know who said it, but they sure got it right.

Still, it's better than working. wink

I know this is probably a boring journal for most of you.

I'd write about lost loves, broken friendships & other crappy relationships, but I am happy to report that I am over all of those things and...
