This has, without doubt, been one of the craziest days of my life.

On the relatively sane side: I've gotten three visits from UPS or equivalents today, including one package that turned out to be my first credit card.

Now, on to the big news. Last night, I spent most of my time relaxing, because I had major heartburn and my pulse seemed to be a bit fast. I went to bed early. I woke up this morning feeling fine, ate breakfast, and walked the three blocks to campus.

By the time I got there, I was dizzy, and my heart felt like it would beat out my chest. I went to class, tried to relax, and kept an eye on my pulse. After twenty minutes, it hadn't gone lower than 90 BPM, and I was feeling more dizzy. That's when I went to student health, which was luckily just down the hall. The nurse examined me, and when my pulse reached 14 twenty minutes later, she had security take me to the urgent care center in town. While I was there, by body finally started to calm down. The doctor had me recall previous incidents of this, and I remembered two: one from a year ago, when I had downed a ton of Chai in the course of one week, and one barely remembered from 1995 that I only remembered when they found it in my medical history.

The doctor decided to give me an EKG, which turned out ok. In the end, they think it's a benign condition called "mitralvalve prolapse," which means I probably have a heart valve that is nestled against the electrical center of the heart. During times of stress, or strenuous exercise, it makes the heart beat faster than normal for long periods of time. Large amounts of caffine can trigger it too (hence the Chai incident from last year.) Supposedly, people can learn to control it through concentration and breathing.

If this is true (and I think it is), it would explain a lot in my life, like why my heart rate always takes a long time to go back down after exercise. When they mentioned it was triggered by stress, I wasn't surprised either. If you've been reading my journal lately, you might know what I have been stressed out about. I have two weeks to decide the course of my life. I think this means I need to stop and relax, and put things in perspective.

In happier news, my social life is as happy as it has been in a while. I'm dating regularly, and having a great time. It's strange, I'm making lots of new friends, people I really enjoy hanging out with, and I doing it just in time to leave them behind. Life is strange that way.

I hope everyone out there in SG land is doing well and enjoying the Spring.

By the way, if you happen to know of anyone looking for part time help or a roommate in the DC area this summer, please let me know. smile
