I am AWOL in sunny (forecast: rain) northern Italy from tomorrow, for a week and a bit.

Please play nice in my absence.

For the record too: my girlfriend's capacity for mis-hearing things (as previously discussed in this forum) has been the subject of much interested commentary.

Common response one: she must have serious hearing difficulties.

My reply: no, I wasn't as clear as I should have been. She hears fine. She interprets weirdly. (She actually thought for a moment that I was talking alien to a taxi-driver recently. She heard me say something but no words formed in her brain, only sounds, so she assumed the cab-driver and I were chatting away in "alienese". She's an unusual girl.)

Common response two: won't she be upset at the unflattering portrayal and the "she's not like other girls" comment?

My reply: naaaw, she loves it.
