LittleFierceOne and I decided to take our nearly broke asses out of town for a day trip. Somehow, he found out about Krner's Folly, a very strange house in Kernersville, NC. If you've never been, I highly encourage it. It's only $6 per person (they're trying to get money together to renovate, as well as keep up the property), and you literally get to go anywhere in the house. There is an order to the tour, but there are no blocked off rooms, no "stand behind the rope and lean through the doorway" here. It looks like there are rooms that are roped off, but then you find yourself there later in the tour (which is unguided). Essentially, it's like wandering around by yourself in a semi-abandoned old house - there's nobody following you around and staring over your shoulder, you're free to take pictures, you can ask the docent questions which she was happy to answer - it was really a lot of fun.
A brief little bit on the house, from the website:
Krner's Folly, the showcase home of artist, designer, decorator Jule Gilmer Krner has intrigued neighbors and visitors to Kernersville, NC for over 125 years.
This historic and eccentric structure offers 22 rooms spread out over seven levels on three floors. Ceiling heights range from 5-1/2 feet to 25 feet, with 10ft doorways and 2ft passageways. Ornate mantles top the 15 fireplaces, and decorative murals and detailed woodwork adorn every room. A winding staircase dizzies the mind as it takes you from level to level. These are but a few of the magical enchantments to behold in this grand home.
You can find some of the pictures I took in this album.
After spending three hours wandering around Krner's Folly, we went to Old Salem and walked around a bit. It was around 4:00, by then, so we didn't get to do much, but it was fun. Afterward, we drove around a bit, finding places to visit next time we're in the Triad.
When we got home, we fed the kitties and then headed out to Durham to see Vampirate's and Al's band, The Cassandra Project. Seriously good music, and a fun time hanging out with the band, Gillycat, and the gorgeous dancing machine Persephoenix. Nothing like dancing like a retard in public (me, not her - she's actually good!) - seriously, guys, it was a great show and I had a blast. I'm now addicted to "Turning into Darkness" - is that healthy?
We must do it again!
Sigh. My plans have failed...but if you would like to willingly go anywhere with me, do say the word! You has my number...I can has cheezburger?
This song basically says it all...with very cute little kittens too!!!!!
Really if you haven't seen that site, it's pure gold...click the link at the bottom...
But if you can think of anywhere else to go, I will totally gladly come with. I have to live it up between now and May 29, because after that I'll be out of commission for 6 solid weeks. Modern Dance Boot Camp! But I'm so excited!!!
And it's so great that you're excited about your summer work. It's so not lame. That rules! Being passionate is the roxor!!!1111 (okay I am not sure I used that correctly. but yeah. it rocks)
Dude I loved your blog against theocracy. I read it at the time but I was all being sad and s**t and didn't say anything then. It's so true though. Having gone to a catholic school I was very confused as a kid
Girl, you need to get in some making out the couch time. For real. That's a life experience. And not one that will get you a stomach pump or a night in jail or a liver disease or an addiction. It's the GOOD KIND. It's playful and fun.
Life takes all kinds of odd turns (ha ha I don't think you could even map mine) but in the end it usually works out, and even when it doesn't there's something to do about it. But you're with TFO and that's great and now you've got the school stuff and yay! Go you!
Thanks for the all the loves and hugs and encouragements. You're so very sweet. I loves ya
Those pics are SWEET! That house is freaking awesome. I love the "conversation chair"! And I want an attic like that. That's the shit. And I know what you mean about the staircase shot. Every time I do one of those I think either I will fall or I"ll drop my camera and it will be pulverized. LOL TFO must have felt like a giant!
Big big big huggins to you pretty lady. For real. Let's hit the town!
PS...I hope you've already seen these but...if not...omg...the cuteness
Looking for My Leopard
Fear the Stompy Kittens!
PPS. This comment is like longer than your update. I am the rambling queen!
By the way, if you ever want to head down here to do any research, you are welcome to stay here. I am right smack dab in the middle of about 6 different school systems!!
