I had a scary "reverting to childhood" moment, today. Something triggered a memory from when I was very small (about 3 or 4) of my mom flipping out and throwing trash at me and my sisters. She was pissed at herself and taking it out on us (hooray for alcohol!)... I was at the top of the stairs, because I had been in my room, and she turned to me and started shouting something about none of us keeping anything clean and threw a garbage bag up the stairs at me.

'Twas not a happy moment... to this day I still don't know how to react when I'm around somebody who is angry at him/herself. I'm always afraid that they will turn their agresssion on me and I usually just try to avoid them... today I hid and cried. I felt very much like a child, and I don't really like that.

Damn, I'm depressing... so onto happy things! We have a new kitten! She is very cute and very sweet... hopefully, we'll be able to pick her up from the shelter tomorrow - depends on whether or not they'll allow us to have her spay done at our vet, instead of the shelter. I totally understand why they spay/neuter before sending them home (as people won't bring them back to get it done - even though they've already paid for it), but since they kind of know us and we work at a vet hospital, I think they might allow it. She has a leg deformity, as well, which we're hoping the vet can do something about (even if it means removing the leg). We'll see.

I'll get pictures as soon as we get her home and she settles in a bit. We've begun kitten-proofing the bathroom in anticipation, since she'll probably stay in there for a couple days to not stress out the kitties we already have and get used to her new environment. I can't wait to have her! I miss my babies, and it'll be nice to have a pet that feels like she's partly mine. LittleFierceOne's kitties like me, but they're his cats... so they don't really pay me much attention when he's home.

Plus, it'll give me another girl in the house - balancing the odds a little. (3 boys to 1 girl leaves me a little outnumbered.)

mastercraftsman:
Thanks for the advice on vets. It's not really my style, going in begging for a break, but I asked around and there's a vet just starting his practice who used to work at the Humane Society down in Rock Hill. People say I should ask him about a payment plan. I can't get down there until Saturday, and asking over the phone won't work. But I'll make it. Thanks again. smile
