One of my credit card companies (that I have a card with, not that I own... just to clarify) sent me a letter in the mail telling me that I could get a more personalized card with the image I choose (out of their offered 150). I'm realy a minimalist (hey, I like the girls of the ibtc) so a monogrammed card or such would be fine. But I had to just order a new debit card (actually, I noticed it expired this month so I called and they sent me a new one though they assured me one had been sent out and I received the original sent the day after I called...now that's a funny little anecdote) and my bank only makes dull ones with their logos (and my God awful mug on the front of it from four years ago when my smart ass decided to have my picture taken after being up all night and being totally exhausted). I wanted something with some style. So, the one I ordered turned out to be...

Degas' Dancers In Blue

While not the biggest fan of Degas (the perv; I found Edward Hopper's work spoke to my inner isolationism) it is my attempt to reacquaint myself with art... that is what I'm paying the loans back for learning in college

Speaking of Hopper, this is his "Two On The Aisle"

And my mastercopy

This was years ago- only my third oil painting, I believe- and done with only three larger round brushes. It turned out rather well considering my lack of skill and lack of supplies. It was the only Hopper my professor had. I told her in critique that I wished I had tried something less in depth for my mastercopy. I really wanted, my favorite, Early Sunday Morning.

I have actually sat Sunday mornings, Hopper's Early Sunday Morning as my desktop, studying it while Johnny Cash's Sunday Morning Commin' Down played in iTunes. It sounds trite, but it captures a mood.

And isn't all art supposed to do so?

Here's to hoping I'll get to working on some of my own.
