I had chest pain. Went to ER. Everything fine (even my thyroid, which my mother was adamant I get checked out). Had a doctor followup. Mentioned anxiety. She prescribed meds. Still having chest pain (tightness, really). Meds aren't working (so it's not acid reflux and not helping me cope with stress). Appointed a Cardiac Stress Test. Heart fine. Did diagnose one thing: I'm fucking out of shape.

Other diagnosis news...

Three weeks ago Tuesday I got a new MacBook Pro. All well and good. After two weeks I noticed things that weren't quite right... my screen would go dark but I could still see the desktop or the screensaver, like the backlight just wasn't working. I would touch the trackpad and all was right again. Then it got worse: if I put the guy to sleep he was slow to wake afterwards, sometimes not waking at all. The harddrive was spinning and the optical drive was checked but no display. If it did come on any key I had pressed to get it to work had registered (random letters I had typed appear in a document I left open, the "Are you sure you want to shut down" window was open after I pressed the power button). I did everything you're supposed to in that third week: "zap" the PRAM, reset the SMC, repair permissions, verify disk, Apple Hardware test, everything.

I called the local Apple store, the one I got if from, and was told two weeks is their return policy. I had to come in and speak with a Mac Genius "and then they can tell you what your repair options are." Repair options? On a three week old Mac? I went in (after working all night AND having to run a Stress Test first thing in the morning), waited, got my turn and the little bugger wouldn't do any of the things I swore it had been doing. The Genius went over to a store MBP, put it to sleep, wake, sleep, wake. Came back to tell me that even though we couldn't reenact the trouble I was having, by comparison, my little guy did seem to have a problem with its inverter (the display was much slower than the store machine) and since it was only a week over the return date (this was Wednesday morning, so just at three weeks) that we would just swap it out for a new one.

This is why I love Apple.

Anyone ever seen the 25th anniversary celebration for the Rocky Horror Picture Show where Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from Buffy) dressed in ripped fishnets and a corset? On that special, Amber Benson (who played Tara on Buffy) performed "Touch-A Touch-A Touch-A Me/Creature of the Night" dressed in bra and slip. I never found her that attractive on the show but would've jumped her then and there. That means I loved her performance. Recently it came back to mind and got me interested in the actual movie. While I haven't seen it (I'm not sure if this backwoods town would have a copy and no telling what they'd think if I rented it) I've been downloading the music and my mind is freakin' humming with it all the time now.

You better wise up, Janet Weiss

It's astounding, time is fleeting

Dammit, Janet, I love you

It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the right

A mental mind fuck can be nice

Someone on Amazon wrote a review of the album/show saying he couldn't believe a hairdresser from New Zealand (Richard O'Brien/Riff Raff, which is my first problem with the reviewer since O'Brien is originally from England) could have penned such a spectacle, that Meat Loaf and songster Jim Steinman must have had a hand in it. Since Meat Loaf was in the movie he assumed, I suppose, that it began as a movie. Meat Loaf had performed the stage show before he was ever in the movie auditioning for Eddie without any ties to O'Brien that I know. The thing I find amazing, not to take away from O'Brien, is how much the show and songs sound like Jim Steinman... that's the thing that freaks me out.

And did you know the big hits for Bonnie Tyler back in the '80s were written my Steinman? And I have a confession... I prefer Celine Dion's version of "All Coming Back To Me Now" to Meat Loaf's (the song was, of course, written by Steinman)

And since I've offered up such an odorous bouquet of potpourri, I'll add a little more... check out the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham (YouTube has loads of videos), particularly his bits with Peanut, Jos Jalapeo (on a Stick), and Achmed the dead terrorist. And check out Mitch Hedberg. Funny guys!
