My favorite book series as a kid were actually two. One, the Redwall series. Brian Jacques wrote several amazing books about mice who live in an abbey called Redwall which would inevitably come under attack by rats, cats, stoats, ferrets, and weasels. The mice would fight off the advancing hoards. The first book my best friend read first. He told me about it and I read it. Falling in love with the series I handed the book to my dad to read. This exchange of books has become a large part of our relationship. We're always talking about books, tv series, and movies. What worked what didn't. We love analyzing stories. It led to my second favorite series. For Christmas one year my dad bought me a book called Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings. The first in the Belgariad. A boy Garion has to leave home and discover his destiny. It's hard to describe without spoiling it for you but it was my second long form fantasy series. It spawned a life long love of the genre. I love the idea of the magic system in the world. Simple yet very deep. The Will and the Word. Basically you can cause anything to happen if you have the Will. Immense concentration and a word associated with what you want to do. Or maybe it could be any word as long as your intent is firm. I haven't read them in a long time.
