I am very disgruntled with computers and TVs and the whole general market of electronic media interaction. It is all so very unimaginative. Nothing has changed since the original display was made. first it was light projected through film onto a wall. Then it was electrons projected through phosphorous, then light through plasma, then light through crystals. Trying to make it more detailed, flatter, cheaper and bigger. So you can have a wall of video. Immersive.

I want to go back the way of our retro future. When they were sure we were all going to be in virtual reality.
I want:
A head mounted display(VR goggles) with head tracking.
and picture this.
With the goggles on, your computer could display 2, 3, 4, 100 "virtual" displays. You could still operate as if you still had your 19 inch LCD in front of you, but without the need for the hardware. Or rather than having a display, have your application windows hover in space in front of you. Locked in place, so if you turned your head left, your browser window stayed at it's same point in space, until you looked back at it. The Immersive desktop.
Choose a video to watch and expand your media player to the size of a 52 inch screen a comfortable 6 foot from you. You could even have little customizations in it. Like if you look away from the video for 30 seconds to pause until you look again.
add hand tracking like a virtual glove. and you could interact with the windows, dragging and moving them around, zooming and stretching them. Similar to the computer environment in "Johnny Nemonic", but actually much improved. All the hardware and software are there waiting to be combined.
To save on memory and effort on your graphics card, you could lower resolution or work in like a "spot light" mode, where what was directly in your line of sight was what was processed, and everything else ran as background tasks waiting to be called up.

I'm just so tired of the "keyboard, mouse, LCD" world of computer.

I'm positive I could do it if I had the money.
High resolution goggles. IR LEDS, a wii-mote, and a linux desktop. I'm positive it could be done.
