So I'm an actor, playwright, musician, and spoken word artist, and I'm trying to get back into my craft. I really want to invest more of my time into making more of a name for myself. A few years ago, I printed a book of poetry, and I want to do another one (even though paper-publishing is a losing business, if I save what I make, I'll hopefully be able to do bigger and better things.). I also recently started composing my own music, and I just started working on an album. It's just guitar and vocals, but I'm proud of what I've written so far. Not only that, but I'm also working on some plays for a local theater, as well as my freelance works to be submitted to every playwriting contest I find myself eligible for.
Not only that, but I want to be able to reach out to local businesses and see if I can't get them involved- local coffee shops, college radio stations, farmers' markets, indie bookstores, etc. Once I do that, I want to reach out to other musicians in my area, and have them publish their work through me so that their records can be sold in all those places as well. It would be really good for the local economy. I also want to publish my work using sustainable goods - 100% recycled paper and plastic. Maybe even hemp oil-based ink if I can get my hands on it. I haven't really looked yet, but I'd imagine it would be hard to come by.
Here's the thing: I work more often when I'm pushed, so do me a favor, and ask me how things are going. Ask me about the last book I read, play I saw, film I watched, and album I listened to. Ask me about the last open-mic I went to. Nag me to make sure I go to the next one! Ask for video! If I have a video I'm proud of, I'll upload it to SG, and you can see my work, whether it's poetry, music, theater, prose, etc. Before I post anything, I will get a copyright on my work, though, so don't try and pull anything. :p
I'm also feeling a bit uneasy about some things... There is a lingering threat of unemployment constantly following me. To make money, I'm thinking of getting into investing. Socially responsible investing- wind, solar, vegan stuff, union labor, things like that. I'm gonna go to the bank to ask about it the next day I have off (Wednesday). I want to learn about the market. I'd imagine now would be a good time to get into wind and solar- considering peoples' finally realizing the urgency of the climate change situation.
My goal in life is to become the guy from the Dos Equis commercials when I get super old. I want to be able to say that I've done things with my life other than sit in a cubicle, and code (not that there's anything wrong with coding. I've started teaching myself some of that, too, which I need to continue so I can get my website up.)
