Man's cockiness is about dominace and survival. In the old time we had to become the strongest and most capable or most creative to survive. If we did not do so we would get passed by. We would get over-come by "darwinism". Our bloodline and our familiy would not survive. That is why a lot of people seem to struggle to be the best. Its why the 'jock's' and the freak battle each other for dominion. That is our primal side getting loose to help us survive.

Sometimes i belive there is no such thing as a selfless act. Survival seems to be the focal point of everyone these days.

"And you shall bare my wrath"

Hell was brought down on the south and people still felt the need to rape and murder and steal. Apart from being an example of how horrid man-kind can be, it also serves to remind us of our deep down urge to survive. Those people did those things to gain dominion is some form. To take one more step up the food chain. The took that step in the way everyone around them did for many many years. They stepped on and destroyed anything they felt they had to so that they would come out on top.

Just like mother nature is doing.
