Well. Its been an interesting couple weeks. And I'm overdue for post.
Lets start of with the last Sunday in Feb. I put my car into a ditch. Spun out and head first into a ditch. No one was injured which is good. Luckily they built those little 2door trackers tough because the damage appears to have been minimal. I did manage to bend the hell out of the steering wheel, the most obvious and complicated damage. I don't know yet whether or not I bent something on the right front wheel, but it felt like it when i drove it home. (the wreck was less than a block from my house) Insurance is doing what its supposed to.

Then this week was mandated training, yay. Every year we have to have so many hours of training by TCI codes. Three days of class. First day was civil rights and re certification in CPR. (side note- don't make out with the dummy, they don't like that.) Civil rights is always fun. They teach us how they apply to a jail setting and the consequences of violating someones civil rights, or even standing by while someone else does. And I'll tell ya this, I will not cover up for another officer going too far, it isn't worth it, nor is it right.
Second day, was use of force and defensive tactics and they stressed the Defensive part. This year the moves were basically delaying techniques designed to create space between you and the attacker, giving you time to deploy spray, call for backup. The other was escorting someone who doesn't want to be, and dealing with a sudden school yard head lock(which i don't see being used at all in our setting) Funny bit- We were doing palm strikes and front kicks into pads held by another. The guy holding mine had to weigh like a buck 40 and i was moving him all over the field. On the reverse. Once I planted myself in stance, even his best kicks couldn't move me much.
Three and a half years, I havent had to use any of the moves they have taught. If your thinking of getting into corrections or any kind of law enforcement, having good communication skills will help you a lot more than know a few moves. If you have a bad temper, fuck it, go somewhere else. If you just like to fight, fuck it, go somewhere else. Last day was chemical spray re certification. The stuff we use is nasty. I would rather be tazed.
All in all, it wasn't that bad. A week of no real work. I go back in Saturday.
For now though I get to enhoy a Friday night off. Woot!
( Also I got some hockey pads in on Monday, from this I'm gonna build my torso and shoulder armor. I know its all modern, but with a bit of leather in the right places and wearing an over sized tunic over it I should be able to pull it off. Also I got in some new elbows. Blackened steel with two lames (movable joints)
ladyaurale:
Training of any sort in replace of work is always an enjoyable intermission in what can be a pain in the ass routine. I always look forward to workshops instead of heading into the classroom for the day.

Most of the good armor is built up over modern stuff anyways. You're right about correct placement of material and leather.

Need pictures when you're done!
