You know, I often make silly comments about how I'm a bitter husk of a person but I really don't think its all that true.
Valentine's Day never seems to really get to me in and of itself, mostly because its one of those things I don't really agree with anyway. Even if I did have a girlfriend I'd probably just make some cynical remarks and then hope she doesnt dump my arse for not getting her a card. Today was an especially large pain in the arse though because I was stuck in work, motivation and concern at zero, serving people for lottery tickets and Valentines stuff.
I actually witnessed what I believe to be the saddest, most pathetic thing I will ever see in my life. A group of around 7 people, all frantically pawing through a pile of Valentines cards like a fox pawing through a binbag. Cards were strewn all over the fucking place, and all the customers seemed to really offer up were mutterings about how "disgusting" it was that they were all around 7. A few lamented at the lack of choice on offer, making comments that were way too loud along the lines of "Jesus, do you only have cards for wives now?" After witnessing this display I'm convinced that had Oppenheimer had as much contact with people as I do, he probably wouldn't have felt nearly so remorseful about the whole A-bomb thing.
I thought about telling them why we didnt have many cards, and why our remaining ones were so expensive. A horrendously barbed piece of wit informing them that most sensible people had already bought cards about 2 weeks ago...and probably the cheaper ones too. Then I decided against making sarcastic comments. By the time I remembered that it didnt really matter what I said to customers anymore, they had gone - and I was left unsatisfied. So there you go. I didn't really hate Valentines because I'm a dateless loser. I hated it because other people's bullshit encroached on what to a lot of people was just a normal fucking Wednesday. Surely that's proof I'm not entirely souless.
Earlier on tonight I took in a second viewing of Hot Fuzz along with Martin_Blank and another one of my perverted friends. It holds up stupidly well to a repeat and I think i might actually have enjoyed it more this time.
Also, in an act of "Ha, i'm now management at an incredibly casual company" style behaviour I decided to dye my hair blue/black. Still not quite sure what I think of it. I think on the whole I prefer it to my natural hair colour and its wild fluctuations, but I think I may be too damn pale to really pull it off.

Also, my car passed its MOT without any problems at all so thats a little bit of money I've managed to save. I still begrudge paying nearly 100 for 6 months tax though. Bastards
