so i may have found a new hobby. last week i contacted hellen bed, a cofounder of central mass roller derby, which just started up last year. i told her that with my job, because i'm working mostly doubles, i have a few days off every week and asked if i could possibly volunteer. this was because, one i would like to be part of roller derby growing in central mass, two it would be a great way for me to meet new people and make good friends, and three hot girls on wheels beating the shit out of each other. so hellen got back to me saying that they do indeed need people to ref but also that it was a coed league and i could even skate. i kinda laughed at this second part, i have no coordination and would simply make a fool of myself.
so last night i went to go check it out. i was of course to anxious to say anything to anyone so i was the creeper in the corner. i watched practice and i was impressed with how nice everyone was and how close they all seemed. thats what i miss most about sports, i was never good at any of them but it was nice to be part of a team. well eventually a few of the guys did come over and talk to me. they told me they could use some more guys on the team and a few told me how until they started just a few weeks ago they had never even skated. that got me thinking, maybe i should try it. i also noticed one of the girl, belle air bomber, had a bunch of the new kids (fresh meat) off in the corner and was teaching them the basics of skating and what not.
after it was over one of the girls, ina infirmary, came over and asked me if i was with somebody or if i was there to get information. i stumbled over my words but eventually told her i was here to check shit out and if that yes some info would be good. she got me some papers and explained how things work for me. their are $30 a month dues to be in the league. you can go to four practices for free though to check it out. four those four practices they'll let you borrow some extra gear for free and you just have to rent some skates from the rink.
so i'm incredibly anxious but i think i'm going to try it out. i could have a lot of fun and meet some awesome new people.
